DIY Tips For Garden Paving

Maintaining a natural grass garden is a tough job, it requires a lot of attention and time for its maintenance. 1. First thing first – Have an overview over the project

To do garden paving, gather all the information about the tools you need, process you need to apply, types of pavers available, what precautions to take and what material is required. Get all the required stuff before you start working on the project. Take care of your requirement, use durable material according to the outdoor conditions.

2. Make Plans

Doing advance planning of your work will make your work more economical and efficient. Measure the area to be paved, plan the sequence of processes to be used in the whole project. Calculate the pavers you are going to need. You may also need permission from the local council, get all the approvals before your start your work and take care of your safety.

3. Start with making foundation

Root out the grass from your garden and crush out the rocks and sand balls using some roller or heavy object. Mark the corners of the area with thread up to the height you want to install paving. Adjust the string to allow small slope for water runoff. Make sure to keep the ground firm and well compacted to avoid future damage. Create a perfect sand bed using a perfect type of sand, it should be a river sand neither too wet nor too dry and then move ahead.

4. Level up the surface

Use a timber screed board for levelling up a sand bed. The timber board should be 10 mm less than the pavers. Run a screed board over the surface to make the sand layer smooth and levelled. Initially start with levelling a small area and then level more after installing pavers on it, if you level up the entire at once you will most possibly destroy it by stepping on it while installing pavers.

5. Lay pavers on the bed

Start laying pavers from the corner, at this stage you’ll be working from outside the sanded area. Begin with placing pavers on the levelled sand keeping a 2-3 mm gap between them. Lay the paver web in a perfect symmetry. Use bolster or trowel for adjusting your pavers. In case you need to cut a paver for completing your symmetry, use a bolster and hammer to break it.

6. Fill up the gaps for bonding pavers

Use a mixture of dry cement and dry sand mixed with water to bond the laid pavers. Spread a mixture on the whole area and sweep it into the cracks. Or else use a special pave setting mixture for fixing the pattern. Use a Wacker plate for a better settlement of pavers in large areas.




Once you have done setting your pavers, give it a finishing look and Voila! You have successfully paved your garden.
