Food borne illness due to presence of bacteria or toxins is generally caused by consuming the most common whole food that we like. We fail to realize that these seemingly safe foods may not be agreeable to everybody’s system and that is why people get sick.
Some people are allergic to certain type of food and some have a poor system which can give them food poisoning. If you are constantly getting sick due to consuming some type of food then you need to be more vigilant. Here are some of the common whole foods which could be causing you the problems.
Eggs
Eggs are the most common cause of allergens with symptoms occurring within minutes of consuming eggs or any food containing eggs. The symptoms begin to appear fully within a few hours, like swelling around the mouth, hives, abdominal cramping, vomiting and diarrhea. In very rare cases, anaphylactic shock is brought on by egg allergen.
The presence of salmonella may be very low in eggs but it is still the major cause for food poisoning in America every year. Elderly people, babies and sick people are most prone to salmonella poisoning and their recovery is quite slow. Healthier people recover quickly from the attack. Salmonella poisoning is indicated by fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain and vomiting.
If you are sick each time you eat egg, then you had better take stock of the situation as clearly egg does not agree with your system. In order to avoid food poisoning, always keep eggs refrigerated and discard those eggs that are dirty or cracked. Salmonella bacteria can be killed by cooking the egg properly. Other than that, the best substitute for eggs is banana and tofu if you want to be on the safer side.
Milk
Milk is one of the most common allergens, particularly cow’s milk and the symptoms of milk allergy includes hives, difficulty in breathing, skin rashes, abdominal cramping and chronic cough. Many people also lack an enzyme called lactase which is necessary for breaking down milk in the digestive tract making them lactose intolerant.
The symptoms of lactose intolerance are bloating, cramping, nausea, diarrhea and gas. Allergy is caused not only by cow’s milk but by non-organic milk products as well due to the presence of pesticides, hormone and antibiotic residues.
You can avoid cow’s milk if it does not agree with you by taking lactase supplements which are very convenient and just as healthy Indian Sweets. If you still want to drink milk you can go in for goat’s milk, soy milk, rice milk and any other nut based milk.
Cauliflower
Who would think that an innocent vegetable would lead to uric acid crystals formation in the joints or connective tissues? This is due to the presence of purines which are converted into uric acid by our body and then eliminated through the kidneys. Some people are unable to process the uric acid which is then accumulated and forms the uric acid crystals. This buildup can cause the symptoms of inflammation, pain, gout and ultimately causing kidney stones to develop.
You can turn to the cauliflower cousins, such as the cabbage and broccoli which do not contain too much purines if you want to omit cauliflower from your diet. Cauliflower taken in moderation is alright but if you are going to make it a regular combination with meat and poultry then you could be asking for trouble.
Finding out which food produce and products are good for abating your allergy and food poisoning problems can minimize your problems. Whatever you eat, check and get information as to what is good for you and which substitutes would be better.
